Agiel is an American death metal band from Rochester , New York that was formed in 1997. The name of the band comes from the Enochian language and stands for the intelligence of Saturn .

history

The band was formed in 1997 by singer and keyboardist James Taylor. Other members were guitarist Mike Dillio, bassist Kris Piper and drummer Tim Yeung . The debut album was released in 1999 under the name The Works of War . In 2001, work began on a demo called Hymnos Ex Maledicus Gemini , which resulted in the 2002 album Dark Pantheons Again Will Reign , which was released through Unique Leader Records . The release was followed by a tour to promote the record, with the band performing with Cephalic Carnage and December , among others , before finishing work on a previously unreleased album, Kuthula . Some of these songs were released in 2005 under the name Vessatu . In 2007 the group decided to take a longer break. The band break ended in December 2012. She worked on new songs and released them under the name Dark Pantheons on Deepsend Records .

According to Eduardo Rivadavia from Allmusic, the band play a mixture of black and death metal. According to Vincent from metal-observer.com, the band plays Death Metal on Dark Pantheons Again Will Reign , which is comparable to Nile 's, with the Egyptian samples being replaced by clever background noises. The riffs would sound like Morbid Angel . He described the music as technically demanding Brutal Death Metal , comparable to the music of Nile, Morbid Angel and Suffocation .
