Casale di Pari (also Casal di Pari ) is a district of Civitella Paganico in the province of Grosseto , Tuscany region in Italy .
geography
The place is about 4 km north of the main town Civitella Marittima and about 38 km northeast of the provincial capital Grosseto . The place is at 458 m slm and has about 180 inhabitants. Neighboring towns are Bagni di Petriolo (municipality of Monticiano , approx. 2 km north) and Pari (Civitella Paganico, approx. 1.5 km northeast).
history
The place was first documented in 1206 as the property of the Ardengheschi family of counts . There are hardly any traces left from this time. Later the place became the property of the Republic of Siena. The place got a boom in 1537 when Fabio De Vais, a Senese nobleman, built the Residenza del Vescovo (residence of the bishop). Only a few original structures of this building remain. The places Pari and Casale di Pari belonged to the municipality of Campagnatico until 1920 when they became the municipality of Pari. Six years later Pari was merged with Paganico. The new municipality of Civitella Paganico was established on February 5, 1928.
Attractions
- Chiesa di San Donato , church from the 14th century. Was completely restored in the 1930s in the neo-romantic style , only the side entrance remained in the original. The fighter at the side entrance has the inscription S. Monachi De Ecclesis Vaecto (brought from the monk's church), referring to the church of Sant'Antonio in Valdaspra (approx. 1 km northwest), which was abandoned in 1782 and of which only today there are still ruins left.
- Residenza del Vescovo , palace (of the bishop) with entrance gate on Via Costeggio, built in 1537.
- Pozzo di Casale di Pari , medieval fountain.
