Aguda is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Figueiró dos Vinhos . It has 1106 residents (as of June 30, 2011).
geography
Aguda is located 8 km west of the district town of Figueiró dos Vinhos.
history
In 1212 the place received city rights by King D.Sancho II and was elevated to Vila . King Manuel I renewed the city rights ( Foral ) in 1514. Aguda belonged to the Maçãs de Dona Maria district until 1855 , and since then has been affiliated to the Figueiró dos Vinhos district.
Culture and sights
In the municipality is the village of Casal de São Simão , which is part of the route of the preserved slate villages , the Aldeias do Xisto .
The limestone stake ( Pelourinho ) from the 16th century is a listed building.
