Campelo is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Figueiró dos Vinhos . It has a population of 278 (as of June 30, 2011).
history
Christian settlers settled here during the Reconquista . Under the reign of King Sancho I , the area belonged to the district of Miranda do Corvo under the name Casal da Ponte . Only after the Liberal Revolution in Portugal and the subsequent Miguelistenkrieg was the municipality assigned to the district of Figueiró dos Vinhos after 1834. It had since been renamed Campelo, after the clergyman Frei Gaspar de Campelo who worked here .
