Arega is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district of Figueiró dos Vinhos . It has 870 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

geography

Arega is 8 km south of the district town of Figueiró dos Vinhos.

history

The place received its first town charter ( Foral ) in 1071, and after the independence of the Kingdom of Portugal (1139) for the first time in 1201. Arega belonged to the Maçãs de Dona Maria district until 1855 , and since then has been affiliated to the Figueiró dos Vinhos district.
