Ahititi is a small settlement in the Taranaki region ofthe North Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
Its name means in the language of the Māori dismantled: ahi = "cooking fire" and titi = " Petrels ".
geography
Ahititi is located directly on New Zealand State Highway 3 around 50 km northeast of New Plymouth . The North Taranaki Bight is only 5 km west of the village and is accessible to the north via State Highway 3 and the town of Tongaporutu and 28 km away via Mokau . Inland, the connection leads directly to the east via New Zealand State Highway 40 and the town of Kotare 16 km to the east .
South of Ahititi is the Mt Messenger Conservation Area with the 306 m high Mt Messanger as the highest mountain in the area and in the north of the village the area of the Hutiwai Conservation Area extends .
To the northeast of Ahititi , the Tongaporutu River flows past and flows into the Tasman Sea about 5 km northwest at Tongaporutu .
Education
With the Ahititi School, the settlement has a primary school with grades 1 to 8. In 2015, 20 students attended the school.
