Air Bäron

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Air Bäron is a banner that has been used in almost all games of the German national soccer team in the stadium since 1995 .

The 4.50 meter wide and 80 centimeter high banner shows the lettering AIR BÄRON in white capital letters on a black, red and gold background. It refers to Karsten Bäron , who was active as a striker for Hamburger SV from 1992 to 2000 and at times also for the German U21 national team . The nickname is based on that of the US basketball player Michael "Air" Jordan .

The creator and owner of the banner is football fan Frank Niemann, a postman from Westbevern . Even after Bäron's active career ended in 2000, Niemann continues to travel to German internationals around the world to hang the banner on the fences of the fan curves. By the end of 2008, the famous banner was seen at over 130 international matches in 53 countries, including all World and European Championships . Niemann states that he visits between 40 and 50 games with the banner every year.

According to Karsten Bäron, he and Frank Niemann are now friends.
