List of railway lines in Turkmenistan
This page shows a list of the railway lines in Turkmenistan . The state railway company is the Türkmenistanyň Demir ýol (TDÝ).
Railway lines
- Trans-Caspian Railway : Türkmenbaşy - Balkanabat (Nebit Dag) - Serdar (Kyzyl-Arwat) - Gazanjyk - Ashgabat - Mary - Baýramaly - Türkmenabat (- Tashkent / Uzbekistan ), Turkmen part approx. 1150 km, runs in the south of the country from west to east , parallel to the Karakum Canal and Europastrasse 60
- Railway line Mary – Torghundi : Mary - Iolotan - Türkmenkarakul - Serhetabat (formerly Guşgy / Kuschka) - state border with Afghanistan - Torghundi (Afghanistan). The route runs along the Murgab (315 km) - cf. more here .
- West-Turkish main line on the lower reaches of the Amu Darya: Turkmenabat - Urganch (Uzbekistan) - Daşoguz (- Nukus , Uzbekistan - beinu , Kazakhstan ) (Turkmen part approx. 390 km)
- Amudarja rail line along the upper reaches of the Amu Darya ( Termez , Uzbekistan -) Dashrabat - Kerki (- Qarshi , Uzbekistan) (Turkmen portion 180 km)
- Railway line Ashgabat - Daşoguz (540 km, direct connection through the Karakum desert , provisionally opened in 2006)
- Railway line Türkmenabat - Kerki (215 km, gap closure Amudarja railway, finished except Amu-Darja bridge at Kerki)
- Tejen - Serakhs railway line (in the south, 122 km, to Meshhed , Iran , opened in 1996)
- Decauville horse-drawn tram on Naphthaberg (500 mm gauge , 32.5 km, near Bala-Ischem around 1885–1889)
Planning
In its strategic infrastructure program, the Turkmen government plans to expand the Turkmen railway network by the following routes:
- Railway line Bereket - Kizyl Artek (to Bender Turkmen , Iran, 225 km)
- Railway line Bereket - Kizyl Kaya (170 km, mining area around Kizyl Kaya)
- Railway line Türkmenbaşy - Bekdash (on Kara-Bogas-Gol ) (to Shangaosen , Kazakhstan )
