The Gönen Çayı is a river in northwestern Turkey .
The sources are in the Ida Mountains in the district of Yenice in the province of Çanakkale . On its way, it first crosses this province in a north-easterly direction and is dammed by the Gönen dam at Yalıoba, at river kilometer 55 . Then it crosses the border with the district of Gönen ( Balıkesir province ), feeds another reservoir near Kumköy and then reaches the district town, also called Gönen. Now the Gönen Çayı turns to the north and flows with a delta west of the small town Misakça in the district of Bandırma into the Erdek Bay of the Marmara Sea .
The Gönen Çayı is 134 km long. Its catchment area covers 1450 km². The mean discharge is 25 m³ / s. The lowest measured discharge is 0.223 m³ / s, while the highest is 896 m³ / s.
history
