Aisha Lemu

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aisha Bridget Lemu , also Hajiya B. Aisha Lemu (* 1940 as Bridget A. Honey in Poole , United Kingdom ; † January 5, 2019 in Minna , Nigeria ) was a British woman who, since her conversion to Islam and migration to Nigeria, above all worked as a religious educator.

Life

Lemu took on a bachelor's degree in Mandarin Chinese at the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies in 1961 ; in the same year she converted to Islam on December 26th at the Islamic Cultural Center . During her student days she helped found the Islamic Society at the college (of which she became the first secretary) and in the following year the Federation of Students Islamic Societies in the UK and Eire. After completing her Chinese studies in 1965, she followed up with a one-year postgraduate course in teaching English as a foreign language at the Institute of Education at the University of London, during which she met her future husband Sheikh Ahmed Lemu , who was then studying at the University of London. In August 1966, after obtaining her Postgraduate Certificate in Education , she went to Kano , where she taught for a year and a half at the School for Arabic Studies, where her husband also worked as headmaster. In April 1968 she became Sheikh Ahmed Lemu's second wife ; with him she has a son and a daughter. From 1968 to 1976 she was the principal at Government Girls College in Sokoto .

In 1976 (the year the state of Niger was founded , in which her husband was also appointed Grand Qadi at the Sharia Court of Appeal), she settled in Minna, where she was the headmaster of the Women's Teacher's College until 1978. With her husband, she founded the Islamic Education Trust, which now has branches in several Nigerian states and includes a library, a publishing house, primary and secondary school, and adult education center for women.

Lemu was a member of the Islamic Studies Panel set up by the Nigerian Educational Research Council, which was supposed to revise the national Islamic study curriculum for different school levels. In 1985, Lemu and other Muslim women founded the Federation of Muslim Women's Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), to whose first national Amirah she was elected for four years and for which she continued as a functionary after this term.

In the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Baden-Württemberg in 2010, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution stated that a publication written by Lemu with Fatima Grimm advocated the reintroduction of the Hadd penalties .
