Akiem Jamar Hicks (* 16th November 1989 in San Jose , California ) is an American American Footballer in the National Football League (NFL). He plays for the Chicago Bears as the defensive end .

Career

college

Hicks first attended Sacramento City College and played for their team, the Panthers College Football . After a season he was poached from Louisiana State University . But since NCAA rules of conduct were violated, he was banned for the 2009 season. After a short professional interlude in a call center , he decided to move to Canada and played for two years for the Rams, the team from the University of Regina in the CIS Canadian Football . Due to his good performances there, he managed to be considered for the NFL Draft .

NFL

New Orleans Saints

In the 2012 draft, he was selected in the third round as a total of 89th by the New Orleans Saints . He was only the 9th player ever to make it from the CIS to the NFL. In his rookie season he was featured in 14 games and has been a starter since 2013 .

New England Patriots

On September 20, 2015, Hicks moved to the New England Patriots , in return the Saints received the tight end Michael Hoomanawanui . On December 20, 2015, he was able to capture a fumble in the game against the Tennessee Titans and score his first touchdown .

Chicago Bears

On March 13, 2016, Hicks signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears .
In September 2017, Hicks received a new four-year contract worth $ 48 million . In the following season he got 8.5 sacks.
