Akiko Nakajima

Akiko Nakajima ( Japanese 中 嶋 彰 子 , Nakajima Akiko ; * 1975 in Hokkaidō ) is a Japanese opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Nakajima grew up partly in Sydney , Australia and now lives with her family in Vienna . She started her international singing career with first prize at the Australian Singing Competition in Sydney in 1990.

Her extensive operatic repertoire includes more than 50 roles and has led her a. a. to the major opera houses in Sydney, Tokyo, Vienna, London, Paris, Munich, Frankfurt and Hamburg. She made her European debut as a musette in La Bohème at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples .

Akiko Nakajima was a member of the ensemble at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck and the Staatstheater Darmstadt . She appeared in demanding bel canto roles such as Adina in L'elisir d'amore , the title role in La sonnambula and La Fille du Regiment ; so it had great success with both the audience and the critics. Her career began at the Vienna Volksoper as Sonja in the operetta Der Zarewitsch .

In 2006 she sang the role of Donna Fiorilla in Il turco in Italia as the cover for Cecilia Bartoli at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London . In Japan she can be heard regularly with the NHK Orchestra. Akiko Nakajima works regularly with conductors such as Lorin Maazel , Herbert Blomstedt , Charles Dutoit , Kazushi Ōno , Myung-whun Chung and Thomas Hengelbrock . In July 2008 she made her role debut as Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly at the Steyr Music Festival .

Akiko Nakajima also has a broad repertoire in the concert and song area, from Bach passions to songs by Schubert and Hugo Wolf to works of contemporary literature. Numerous engagements led her to a. to the Festival dei due Mondi in Spoleto, to the Festival of Early Music in Innsbruck, to the Munich Biennale and the Vienna Festival .

Awards

For her success as Lucia di Lammermoor , the German opera magazine Opernwelt awarded her the title “Best Young Artist ”.
