The Aksai ( Russian Акса́й , also Асагалыль ( Assagalyl ), in the upper reaches: Боннойясси ( Bonnoijassi )) is a left tributary of the Aktash in the Russian federal district of North Caucasus .

The Aksai rises on the northern flank of the Andijski ridge in Dagestan . In the upper reaches it forms a mountain river. It flows through the mountains in the extreme east of Chechnya in a northerly direction. In the lower reaches it reaches the lowlands and reaches Dagestan again. It flows through the village of the same name Aksai and shortly thereafter takes on the right tributary Jamansu . Finally it turns to the east and south-east and finally flows into the Aktasch, a left tributary of the Sulak .

The course of the river in the lower reaches of the Aksai has been greatly changed in the past. The Aksai used to flow in an easterly direction south past Babajurt to the sea. Today its water is diverted to the south via canals and reaches Aktasch, which is also canalized.

The Aksai has a length of 144 km. It drains an area of 1390 km². Some of the river water is diverted for irrigation purposes .
