Al Cake Wichard

Albert "Al" "Cake" Wichard (born August 15, 1919 in Welbourne (Arkansas) , † November 14, 1959 in Los Angeles ) was an American musician of jazz and rhythm and blues ( drums , vocals ).

Live and act

Wichard played in Los Angeles in the mid-1940s with Illinois Jacquet and Jay McShann , and during this period he also worked on recordings by Hadda Brooks , Wynonie Harris , Duke Henderson , Russell Jacquet , Jesse Price , King Perry , Pete Johnson , Loumell Morgan , James With Streeter , Gene Phillips and Smiley Turner . In 1946 he recorded two tracks under his own name for the Modern Records label, Slow Down Baby (vocals by Jesse Perry) and Died You Ever Love a Woman? with Duke Henderson as vocalist. In 1947/48 other sextet titles followed for Modern such as Boogie Woogie Downstairs ; played in Wichards Band a. a. Frank Sleets (as), Jay McShann, with Jimmy Witherspoon as vocalist in Pinocchio Blues , Same Old Blues and Your Red Wagon . In the early 50s he still worked with Jimmy Jackson, Jimmy Witherspoon and most recently with King Perry in 1954. In the field of jazz , he was involved in 36 recording sessions between 1945 and 1954.
