Al Di Sarro

Alfred Steven Di Sarro (born December 14, 1951 - January 13, 2011 in Agua Dulce , California ) was an American special effects artist . He received an Oscar nomination in 1989 for his work on Die Hard .

Life

Al Di Sarro attended high school in Burbank . He began working for television as a special effects artist in 1982, for example for the television series The A-Team and The Greatest American Hero . The first film he contributed the special effects to was Predator . He was nominated for an Oscar for his third film, Die Hard .

His other best-known works include the submarine structures for the Hunt for Red October and Crimson Tide - In Deepest Danger and the interior of the Boeing 747 in Turbulence . He received the VES Award from the Visual Effects Society Awards for his work on The Attack .

Al Di Sarro passed away on January 13, 2011 at his estate in Agua, Dulce. Over 600 people attended his memorial service at Universal Studios , Los Angeles County .
