Alvah "Al" Keller (born  April 11, 1920 in Alexander ; † November 19, 1961 in Phoenix ) was an American racing car driver . He took u. a. between 1955 and 1959 participated in five races belonging to the Formula 1 World Championship .

Career

He achieved his best starting position in 1957 with eighth place on a Kurtis Kraft of the Pat Clancy team. But also in this race he was eliminated due to an accident. Keller only started in these races in Formula 1, otherwise he drove in the USA.

From 1949 to 1956 he competed in 29 races in the NASCAR series. In 1954 he won it twice. He was there the first driver who is not made on a in the US make, a Jaguar in the Grand National road-race on the Linden Airport in New Jersey was able to win. It wasn't until 54 years later that Kyle Busch won the Atlanta 500 in a Toyota at the Atlanta Motor Speedway again with a non-American make.

From 1954 to 1961 , Keller competed in the forerunner series of the Champ Car series of the United States Automobile Club and the American Automobile Association, finishing among the top ten 13 times in 39 races. His best individual placings were two second places and fifth place in the 1961 final ranking.

Al Keller died on November 19, 1961 as a result of his injury in a racing accident on the Arizona State Fairgrounds.
