Albert Aublet
Albert Louis Aublet (born January 18, 1851 in Paris , † March 1938 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a French nude and genre painter and orientalist painter .
Aublet worked as a student in the studios of Claudius Jacquand and Jean-Léon Gérôme .
From 1873 he showed his works at many art exhibitions. At the Paris Salon in 1879 he received an honorable mention and in 1880 a third class medal, as well as a gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition in 1889 and a small gold medal at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition in 1901. He also exhibited in the Munich Glass Palace . In 1890 he was awarded the Knightly Order of the Legion of Honor.
From 1881 he spent a long time in North Africa, especially in Tunisia, where he was elected chairman of the local artists' association. Then he went on a study trip to Constantinople . Many pictures of the oriental milieu were created in North Africa and Turkey.
He is considered a role model for Monsieur Biche, a figure in Madame Verdurin's salon from Marcel Proust's novel “ In Search of Lost Time ”.
He was appointed professor at the École des beaux-arts de Paris .
