The trained typesetter initially worked in Danzig and Görlitz and from 1886 in Graudenz for Gustav Roethe and his political newspaper "Der Gesellige". By 1901 he rose from factor to managing director, silent partner and publishing director. With the fortune he had acquired, he bought newspapers in Plauen , Offenbach and Würzburg , from which he soon parted, in order to take over the traditional " Hamburger Fremdblatt ", including the printing and publishing house , in 1907 . He realigned the paper in terms of personnel and technology and, within a few years, made it one of the foremost German political daily newspapers. The circulation rose to 150,000 copies.

The introduction of a rotogravure printing process, which Broschek had improved, had a pioneering effect : in 1911 he produced a rotogravure supplement for the foreign newspaper for the first time, and later also for other newspapers. During the First World War, illustrated weekly newspapers for the front and abroad were added ( “Illustrated War Chronic”, “Welt im Bild” ), and from 1918 onwards, the “Hamburger Illustrierte” . Gravure printing also gained in importance in the affiliated commercial and book printing company and at times made Broschek the largest copper rotogravure printing company on the European mainland. The increased self-confidence as a leading publishing house found its expression in the representative parent company on Heuberg, which was built in 1925/26 according to plans by Fritz Höger .

Albert Broschek was on the board of the Association of German Newspaper Publishers for about a decade and a half and died at a meeting of the association in Königsberg. He was buried in Hamburg, Ohlsdorf cemetery, grid square AA 18 (east of Nordteich , north of Waldstrasse ). His son Kurt Broschek (1884-1946) took over the management of the publishing house until it was expropriated by the National Socialists in 1936.
