Albert Eloy (born June 30, 1927 in Bully-les-Mines , † December 8, 2008 in Troyes ) was a French football player .

Club career

The 172-centimeter-tall defender Eloy began his career in amateur football and played after the end of World War II when ES Bully in his hometown. He entered professional football in 1953 when he was signed to the second division UA Sedan-Torcy at the age of 26 . At a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible, he made the leap into the first team and was already playing in all league games for Sedan in his second year. In addition, the team succeeded in 1955 promotion to the top French league; Eloy made his debut on August 21, 1955 in an encounter against Olympique Lyon in this league.

The team was able to establish itself directly in the top division and also reached the national cup final in 1956 ; Eloy led the team onto the pitch as captain and won a national title for the first time with a 3-1 win against AS Troyes-Savinienne . A year later he turned his back on the club after four years.

He signed with second division club FC Limoges in 1957 , although he was already 30 years old due to his late entry into paid football. At the club he was on the defensive and contributed to the promotion achieved in 1958. However, he did not return to the first class, but switched to the also second class Le Havre AC . As a regular player he succeeded with Le Havre to qualify for the second time in a row for the first division; the first place in the table also meant the second division championship. In addition, the team also moved into the national cup final in 1959 , which was won 3-0 against FC Sochaux and brought Eloy the second success in this competition. He followed this for two years in the middle of the table in the first division before ending his professional career in 1961 at the age of 34 after 122 first division games with a goal and 148 second division games without a hit. Following his active career, Eloy sat from 1962 to 1963 at a club from Châtillon-sur-Seine as a coach on the bench.

National team

The defender was named to the French squad for the 1952 Olympic football tournament. Eloy made his debut on Olympic turf in the game against Poland on July 15, 1952; because France were eliminated in the first game by a 1: 2 defeat, this was his only appearance in such a tournament. There was no appointment to the senior national team.
