Albert Franz

Albert Franz (born September 16, 1947 in Unterleinach near Würzburg ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian and philosopher .

Life

Franz studied philosophy at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome from 1967 to 1970 . From 1970 to 1973 Franz studied Roman Catholic theology at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. In 1974 he was ordained a priest in Würzburg . This was followed by a short chaplaincy, then a doctoral degree at the Johann Adam Möhler Institute in Paderborn and four years as a research assistant at the chair for basic philosophical questions in theology at the Catholic University of Eichstätt (1976–1980), where he received his doctorate in 1982 PhD in theology . From 1980 to 1983 Albert Franz worked as a sub-regens in the Würzburg seminary, then pastor in Würzburg- Rottenbauer for three years . He then returned to Eichstätt as a university assistant for two years, where he obtained his qualification to teach “for basic philosophical questions in theology and for fundamental theology” through his habilitation in 1988 . From 1988 to 1993 Franz was professor of philosophy at the theological faculty of the University of Trier . From 1993 Franz was Professor of Catholic Theology at the TU Dresden ; in March 2013 he retired. In 2012 he was appointed the new President of the Catholic Academic Foreigners Service (KAAD) for four years by the Permanent Council of the German Bishops' Conference . He succeeded Josef Reiter in this office . His successor in office was Eberhard Schockenhoff in autumn 2016 . Albert Franz is co-editor of the journal ET Studies .
