Albert Genrich

Albert Genrich (born January 19, 1912 in Berlin ; † June 20, 1996 ) was a German prehistorian and museum director.

Life

Genrich studied prehistoric archeology in Berlin . During his studies he joined the country team Palaio-Silesia . In 1937 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . From 1954 he worked as curator at the Lower Saxony State Museum in Hanover and from 1974 to 1977 director of its prehistoric department.

In 1949 he was one of the founders of the Working Group for Saxony Research , which promoted studies in the countries around the North Sea; since 1964 he was its president. He is considered to be the initiator of the regional history-oriented research on Saxony in Lower Saxony . The Society of Antiquaries of London made Albert Genrich a Fellow in 1975 . In 1970 he was one of the founding members of the Archaeological Commission for Lower Saxony . He published in the field of the Migration Period in Germany. His publications are significant for the time of the Anglo-Saxon colonization of England. In addition, Genrich carried out important excavations, especially at the old Saxon cemetery Liebenau near Liebenau .
