Albert George Wilson (born July 28, 1918 in Houston , Texas , † August 27, 2012 in Sebastopol , California ) was an American astronomer .

Life

Wilson received his Doctor of Philosophy (German: " Doctor of Science") from Caltech in 1947 with his work Axially Symmetric Thermal Stresses in a Semi-Infinite Solid .

From 1949 he worked at the Palomar Observatory . In 1953 he became the assistant director of the Lowell Observatory . He later joined the Rand Corporation. In 1962 he worked for the specialist magazine Icarus .

He discovered a number of asteroids (including the asteroid (10000) Myriostos on September 30, 1951 ), and was co-discoverer of the comet 107P / Wilson-Harrington , which is also registered as the near-Earth asteroid (4015) Wilson-Harrington . .
