Albert Höft
Albert Höft (born May 29, 1893 in Zerrenthin , † July 2, 1980 in Braunschweig ) was a German politician ( SPD ).
Life and work
After attending elementary and agricultural school, Höft was drafted into the military and took part in the First World War as a soldier from 1914 to 1918 . From 1919 he worked for the Deutsche Reichsbahn in Stettin , where he joined the union. In March 1945 he fled from Stettin to Braunschweig, where he worked as a locomotive driver until 1951.
politics
Höft had been a member of the SPD since 1920 and from 1924 to 1933 city councilor for the city of Stettin. He was also a member of the supervisory board of the Stettiner Hafenbetriebsgesellschaft. At the end of the 1940s he was elected chairman of the SPD district of Braunschweig. He was a council member of the city of Braunschweig since 1948 and a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from 1951 to 1963 . In the state parliament he was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1959. The state parliament elected him in 1949 as a member of the first Federal Assembly , which elected Theodor Heuss as Federal President .
On November 19, 1957, Höft was appointed Minister for Displaced Persons, Refugees and War Victims to the government of the State of Lower Saxony led by Prime Minister Heinrich Hellwege . After the formation of a coalition of the SPD, GB / BHE and FDP , he left the government on May 12, 1959 and was replaced in his office by Erich Schellhaus . From June 12, 1963, he was again serving as Minister of Expellees in the grand coalition led by Prime Minister Georg Diederichs . On June 12, 1964 resigned from this office for reasons of age, resigned from the government and was replaced by Curt Miehe .
Höft got involved in the organizations of the displaced . He was the deputy district chairman of the Association of Expellees in Braunschweig. In the Pomeranian Landsmannschaft he was a member of the federal board, vice-president of the Pomeranian parliamentary assembly, deputy chairman of the Lower Saxony state group and chairman of the Braunschweig district group.
