Albert Hilger (born May 2, 1839 in Homburg , then Rheinpfalz , † May 18, 1905 in Possenhofen ) was a German pharmacologist and food chemist .

biography

Hilger began an apprenticeship as a pharmacist with Johann Hoffmann in Langenkandel in 1854 . After three years as an assistant, he began studying in Würzburg in the fall of 1860, where he passed his high school diploma and passed the state pharmaceutical examination. For his doctorate on August 5, 1862, he moved to the University of Heidelberg . When he returned to Würzburg, he was a private assistant to the botanist August Schenk for one semester and from 1862 to 1867 assistant to Scherer in the organic chemistry laboratory . During this time he worked as a part-time teacher for natural history in the school years 1865/66 and 1866/67 at the Realgymnasium Würzburg .

In 1868 Hilger opened a private agricultural-chemical laboratory. During this time (presumably 1867-1869) Hilger was "deputy director" and "director of the chemistry school" at the "Sunday and holiday craft school of the polytechnic association" . Finally, on July 10, 1869, he completed his habilitation in chemistry, after which he was able to work as a private lecturer in the philosophical faculty after August 28, 1869 . On May 31, 1870 he was appointed to the Medicinal Comité of the University of Würzburg (for the purpose of performing chemical investigations in court) as a “suppleant” (here, for example: deputy expert).

In 1872 he received a position as associate professor for pharmacy and the laboratory for applied chemistry in Erlangen, where he became a full professor in 1875. Hilger was appointed to the University of Munich in 1892 as the successor to Ludwig Andreas Buchner .
