Albert Houssiau
Albert Jean Charles Ghislain Houssiau (born November 2, 1924 in Halle , Belgium ) is a Belgian clergyman and emeritus Bishop of Liège .
Life
Albert Houssiau studied in Brussels at the Catholic University of Leuven and at the seminary of Mechelen . He was ordained a priest on February 6, 1949 . In 1955 he became pastor in Forest / Vorst and in 1956 professor at the Flemish Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and at the French-speaking University Université Catholique de Louvain in Louvain-la-Neuve .
Pope John Paul II appointed him 90th Bishop of Liège on March 17, 1986 . The Archbishop of Mechlin-Brussels , Godfried Cardinal Danneels , donated him the episcopal ordination on May 18 of the same year. Co- consecrators were the former bishop of Liège, Guillaume Marie van Zuylen , the bishop of Namur , Robert-Joseph Mathen , the bishop of Hasselt , Jozef-Maria Heusschen , and the bishop of Antwerp , Paul Van den Berghe .
On May 9, 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
