Albert Knoll (theologian)

Albert Knoll ( pseudonyms : Albertus a Bulsano and Albert von Bozen ; * July 12, 1796 in Bruneck as Joseph Knoll ; † March 30, 1863 in Bozen ) was a Capuchin from South Tyrol .

Life

Knoll was the son of the wealthy Bozen businessman Josef Valentin Knoll. Contrary to the plans of his father, he devoted himself to the study of theology and was 1818 in Trento for ordained priests . On November 22, 1818 he entered the Capuchin Order. He became a preacher and pastor as well as a lecturer in dogmatics at the Capuchin monastery in Merano . From 1820 he taught philosophy in the order and began studying at the University of Innsbruck . After graduating in 1823 he was university lecturer for dogmatics and until 1847 lecturer in Merano.

In 1847 Knoll was appointed General Custodian of the North Tyrolean Order Province and as such sent to the Order Chapter in Rome , where he was elected General Definitor of the Order. He stayed in Rome until 1853. He then went to Bolzano as a preacher and pastor, where he intensified his literary work and stayed until his death.
