Albert Mair

Albert Mair (born June 11, 1941 in Vienna ) is an Austrian jazz pianist .

Live and act

Mair first learned the violin and then the piano. Even during his engineering studies he was active in all genres of jazz music. In 1965 he founded his first quartet, in 1966 he received the Gulda Jazz Soloist Prize. He was then a member of the groups of Bill Grah , Uzzi Förster and Teddy Ehrenreich and played in Hans Koller's Free Sound in the early 1970s . In addition to George Russell , Red Mitchell and Don Cherry , he was active as a teacher for jazz seminars in Denmark. It occurs frequently in duo / trio and with the led together with singer Jimi U. J * A * Q * on. He played with numerous jazz musicians from Austria and abroad, such as Richard Oesterreicher , Häns'che Weiss , Christine Jones, Erich Bachträgl , Leo Wright , Aladár Pege , Ack van Rooyen , Jimmy Woode , Art Farmer , Tony Scott , Benny Bailey , Carl Drewo , Dusko Goykovich , Zipflo Reinhardt or Peter Bockius .

He worked as a DI, most recently for program and system development (PSE) at Siemens AG Austria . His son Albert Oliver Mair also works as a pianist.

He is a co-founder of the Wiener Standards formation . His latest project is Jazz & Lyrik , together with the writer Ingrid Heinisch.
