Zipflo Reinhardt

Live and act

After initially self-taught violin playing, Reinhardt completed a seven-year violin training course. At the same time he had started to play the guitar, switched to the rock scene for a short time in 1968, but then turned exclusively to jazz. Stéphane Grappelli and Jean-Luc Ponty served as role models. Reinhardt was also inspired by John Coltrane , Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea .

On his debut album Violin Impression in 1975, accompanied by Bobby Falta , Jan Jankeje and Kuno Schmid (Koono), there was a first notable audience response. Radio and TV appearances as well as tours through Europe followed. On his second LP New Generation in 1976, Reinhardt presented traditional forms of play à la Hot Club de France . With the album Oceana 1978, Reinhardt initiated a stylistic change towards fusion jazz . The solo album Light of the Future was produced in 1980. Reinhardt released his fourth album, From Time to Time , with Tilman Günther, Florian Döling, Zeca de Oliveira, Matthias Daneck and Daniel Schay in 2001.

In 2001 Reinhardt took part in the Zelt-Musik-Festival (ZMF) in Freiburg. In his band there played alongside Tilman Günther, Florian Döling and Matthias Daneck, the renowned jazz guitarist Sylvain Luc . Zipflo Reinhardt plays fusion jazz in The Zipflo Reinhardt Band with Andy Hermann, German Klaiber and Matthias Daneck. He also appears in a duo with Maiki Adel or in a trio with Jean-Luc Miotti.

Tony Scott , Pony Poindexter , Tony Inzalaco and Jimmy Woode brought Reinhardt as guest soloists. The meeting with the Hungarian guitarist Costa Lukacs, who accompanied Reinhardt together with Kuno Schmid on concert tours through Europe, was important.

For the album The Gipsy Jazz Violin Summit , Reinhardt and fellow violinists Schmitto Kling , Hannes Beckmann and Nipso Brantner as well as Otto Weiß , Gary Todd and Charly Antolini were engaged. There were other collaborations with Keith Copeland , Biréli Lagrène , Billy Brooks , Emil Mangelsdorff , Tony Lakatos , Alvin Queen , Jan Jankeje , Markus Stockhausen and Joe Bawelino .

Reinhardt founded the Zipflo Reinhardt Quartet in 1981 with Jimmy Woode, Albert Mair and Erich Bachträgl , later renamed the Zipflo Reinhardt Group and in 1999 Reinhardt's Quartet , with Mike Reinhardt , Zipflo Reinhardt and Biréli Lagrène .

On the album Way of Life (2011) you can hear not only the traditional band members (Maiki Adel, Jean-Luc Miotti) but also former musical companions (Tilman Günther, Daniel Schay) and guest musicians Pascal Pallamidessi and Bambi Reinhardt.

Musical direction

Reinhardt's own style are compositions of gentle, sometimes melancholic tones or virtuoso passages with the highest playing technique. The clear structures, catchy themes with partially stretched phrasing, with a slim, vibrato-free tone are striking in his music.

Honourings and prices

At the european gipsy music festival 1994 Reinhardt was presented as one of the best jazz violinists in the world. In 2001 he received the ZMF Prize of the Freiburg Tent Music Festival.
