Life
Schumann was born the son of Gotthold Schumann, a circus rider at Circus Renz , and learned to ride a circus since he was three. In 1876 he separated from his father and his company, which had existed since 1871, and worked for other companies. Since joining the Cirque Royal in Brussels , he has mainly worked as a dressage rider and has developed into an unrestricted master of his subject. In 1882 he followed his father to Scandinavia . After Schumann returned to Germany in 1885, he founded his own circus in Malmö .
In 1890 he made his first guest appearance in a circus tent in Vienna, and in Berlin in 1892. In Vienna, in 1890/91, he had a wooden structure built in the 15th district of Vienna, Mariahilfer Gürtel, and replaced it in 1892 with a building for 3,500 spectators. In 1903/04 an extensive stone circus building complex for 5,000 spectators was built in the 15th district of Vienna, Märzstrasse 6-8. In 1893/94 he made his first guest appearance in Frankfurt am Main in a makeshift building. In Berlin in 1899 he took over the building of the former Renz Circus, which Max Reinhardt acquired in 1918 and converted into the large theater . In 1904/05 he had the Albert Schumann Theater built in Frankfurt am Main , which was the second permanent circus building in Germany after the Berlin circus Renz. Schumann retired into private life in 1919, bought a plot of land in Neuenhagen near Berlin and lived on the income from the Frankfurt Schumann Theater.
He was buried in the Dorotheenstädtischer Friedhof II (Hauptweg - 1–13 / 14) in Berlin-Mitte. His grave has been dedicated to the city of Berlin as an honor grave since 1984 .
