Albert Town is a place in the Queenstown-Lakes District of the Otago regionon the South Island of New Zealand .
Origin of name
The place was named in honor of Prince Albert , the consort of Queen Victoria (1819–1861) and was previously called Newcastle .
geography
Albert Town is four kilometers northeast of Wanaka on New Zealand State Highway 6 , which crosses the Clutha River in the place . East of the village, the Cardrona River flows into the Clutha River .
tourism
The place is now a popular vacation spot due to its proximity to Lake Wanaka and the surrounding mountains.
