Albert Zafy (born May 1, 1927 in Betsiaka , Antsiranana Province , † October 13, 2017 in Réunion ) was a Malagasy politician and President of Madagascar from March 9, 1993 to September 5, 1996.

Zafy completed a medical degree at the University of Montpellier . After his return to Madagascar, he became Minister of Social Affairs. After the Ratsiraka coup , he was urged to resign. In 1988 he founded the National Union for Development and Democracy. At a national conference of the opposition in 1990, Zafy was elected chairman.

In 1993, Zafy succeeded in surpassing incumbent Ratsiraka in the first multi-party elections for almost twenty years. However, Zafy could not solve Madagascar's economic problems and therefore resigned in September 1996 after a vote of no confidence (July). In 1997 he lost the election to Ratsiraka.
