Gilles Andriamahazo

Gilles Andriamahazo (born May 5, 1919 in Fort-Dauphin , † September 13, 1989 in Antananarivo ) was a Malagasy general. In 1975 he was President of the National Military Leadership Committee for a few months .

Andriamahazo was a non-commissioned officer in both World War II and the Algerian War . In 1972 he became military governor of the Malagasy capital, Antananarivo. In succession to Richard Ratsimandrava , who had previously been murdered , he took over the role of President on February 12, 1975; on June 15 of that year he was replaced by Didier Ratsiraka . Until 1976 he was the country’s military commission.
