The Alborán Sea is the westernmost part of the Mediterranean and is located between the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa. It connects the Mediterranean with the Atlantic via the Strait of Gibraltar at the western end .

Demarcation

The average depth is 445 m and the maximum depth is 1,500 m.

The International Hydrographic Organization  (IHO) provides a definition of the western and eastern borders of the Alborán Sea.

Several small islands are located in the southern coastal area. The eponymous island of Alborán is located in the middle of the Alborán Sea .
