Simon Albrecht Poppe (born June 8, 1847 in Vegesack ; † February 17, 1907 there ) was a German zoologist .

Life

Poppe was the only child of Schorse Poppe, called Georg, and his wife Margarete. He attended high school in Bremen , but left it in 1868 on medical advice. Thanks to his excellent leaving certificate, he nevertheless began his medical studies in Tübingen in 1868 . Again his health thwarted the plan. After just a few months he had to give up his studies, and another attempt in Göttingen had to be broken off in the summer of 1869.

Back with his parents, who now lived in Bremerhaven , Poppe dealt with ethnographic , prehistoric and above all zoological studies, which were often published. After the death of his father, he moved to Bremen with his mother, married in 1882 and then moved with the family to Vegesack.

He continued to publish actively in Vegesack. In 1901 he took over the management of the Natural History Association for Vegesack and the surrounding area. He held this office until his death in 1907.

His son-in-law was the museum director Hans Stöcklein .
