Alcoentre is a Portuguese parish (" Freguesia ") in the Azambuja district , in the Lisbon district .

history

The place was founded during the Moorish rule, its name means 'little bridge' in Arabic . Alcoentre received its city rights (administrative rights "foral") in 1147 from King D. Afonso Henriques .

The national road 1 (EN1 or N1), marked IC2, passes Alcoentre. It is connected to the A15 ( Rio Maior exit ) 12 km away . The place is connected to the A1 via the county road N366 and the Aveiras de Cima exit 11 km away .

The nearest train station is the county town of Azambuja and its train station on the Linha do Norte line , or Bombarral on the Linha do Oeste, 20 km away .
