Vila Nova da Rainha is a town and municipality in Portugal . It is located about 35 km northeast of the capital Lisbon .
history
The future Portuguese military leader Nuno Álvares Pereira married Leonor de Alvim here at the age of 17 in 1377.
The place was home to one of the earliest state flight schools in the country. The Escola Militar de Aviação was opened in 1915 and was the most important school of its kind in Portugal until 1920. Then the facility was converted.
On July 12, 2001, the place was raised to a small town ( Vila ).

The community consists only of the place of the same name.
traffic
Vila Nova da Rainha has its own stop on the Linha do Norte , the country's most important railway line. However, no long-distance trains such as Alfa Pendular or Intercidades stop here, the stop is only served by regional trains.
The national road N3 crosses the town and also leads to the nearby junction no. 4 (at Carregado ) of the A1 motorway .
