Aleksandra Maria Dulkiewicz (* 10. July 1979 in Gdansk , Poland ) is a Polish local politician and since March 4, 2019 City President of Gdansk. After the murder of her predecessor Paweł Adamowicz, she had temporarily held the office since January 17, 2019. This makes her the first woman to head the city's administration.

Life

Dulkiewicz is a lawyer and has been one of the four vice-presidents responsible for Gdansk economic policy since March 20, 2017. After studying at the Gdańsk and Salzburg universities , she became the assistant to the mayor Paweł Adamowicz in 2006. Dulkiewicz was the representative for the 2012 European Football Championship , worked at the European Solidarność Center until 2014 and then at the Economic Development Department until March 2017.

In 2010 and 2014, Dulkiewicz successfully ran for the City Council on the Platforma Obywatelska (PO) list . From 2014 until her election as Vice President, she was the group leader of the PO and chaired or deputy in the committees for spatial planning and strategy and budget.

After the death of Mayor Adamowicz after a knife attack, she took over his representation on January 14, 2019 and was appointed provisional mayor three days later by the voivode .

On January 22, she announced that she was running for the office of mayor in the early elections on March 3, 2019. She won this election in the first ballot with 82.22 percent of the vote. She stood for the electoral association Wszystko dla Gdańska - “Everything for Danzig”, which her predecessor founded in 2018. In addition, she was supported in the election campaign by the parties PO, PSL , Nowoczesna and Wiosna .

Her parents were both local government officials. Dulkiewicz has a sister and a daughter born in 2008.
