Aleksandre Toradze
Aleksandre Toradze ( Georgian ალექსანდრე თორაძე , also: Alexander Toradze ; born May 30, 1952 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian pianist .
Life
Aleksandre Toradse is a son of the composer Dawid Toradze (1922–1983) and the actress Liana Assatiani (* 1925). At the Moscow Conservatory he studied with Jakow Sak and Lev Naumow . After completing his studies in 1978, he became a professor there a short time later and also gave concerts regularly in the Soviet Union. During a tour of Spain in 1983, he decided to stay in the West and moved to the United States , where he successfully continued his career as a concert pianist.
In 1991 Toradze became Professor of Piano at Indiana University South Bend .
Toradze mainly plays romantic music , especially by Russian composers such as Rachmaninov , Prokofiev , Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky . He recorded for the Philips and EMI labels . His recording of Prokofiev's five piano concertos with Valery Gergiev and the Kirov Orchestra is remarkable .
Toradze has played with all the major US orchestras and is known to pray before performing.
