Alessio Silvestrin

Alessio Silvestrin (born September 11, 1973 in Vicenza ) is an Italian ballet dancer, choreographer and composer.

Life

Silvestrin had ballet lessons with Maria Berica Dalla Vecchia in his hometown and studied at the Académie de Dance Classique Princesse Grace in Monte-Carlo and at the Ecole Atelier Rudra Béjart in Lausanne. He also studied music at the Conservatory in his hometown and at the Académie de Musique Prince Ranier III in Monte-Carlo and was a student of Francesco Valdambrini .

From 1994 he worked as a dancer and choreographer under the direction of Maurice Béjart at the Béjart Ballet Lausanne , under the direction of Yorgos Loukos at the Ballet of the Opéra National in Lyon and from 1999 to 2002 under the direction of William Forsythe at the Frankfurt Ballet, and then as an associated artist by The Forsythe Company. Silvestrin has lived in Japan as a freelance choreographer since 2003. In 2005 the Aichi Arts Center in Nagoya commissioned him with the choreography and performance of Béla Bartók's opera Duke Bluebeard's Castle . In the same year, his piece Ritrovare / Derivare with the actor Tsumura Reijirō was performed at the Biennale di Venezia , which he had originally choreographed in collaboration with Michael Schumacher and the composer Thom Willems for a performance by the dance company Noism at the New National Theater in Tokyo .

In 2006 there was a collaboration with the sculptor Anton Himstedt at the Westphalian State Museum for Art and Cultural History in Münster . In 2007 he worked as a guest of the Siameses dance company under the direction of Maurício de Oliveira in São Paulo and took part in the 4th Festival of Modern Dance in Guangdong, China. For the Cerulean Tower Noh Theater in Tokyo, Silvestrin composed, choreographed and directed the play Kakekotoba in 2008 based on texts from Plato's Phaedo . In the same year, the audio-visual installation Skinslides was created for the Ycam Yamaguchi Center in collaboration with the video artist Richi Owaki .
