Alex Maguire

Alex Maguire (born January 6, 1959 in London ) is a British music therapist and pianist of modern jazz and free improvisation music .

Live and act

After studying with Howard Riley at the University of London , he founded the Ping Pong Club with Steve Noble , which worked with Evan Parker , Phil Minton and Paul Rutherford and dancers like Kathie Duck. He has also appeared with Roswell Rudd , Han Bennink , Paul Dunmall , Derek Bailey and Tony Oxley and has worked as musical director for several theater groups and the Group O dance project .

In 1992 he recorded the album Neglige with Michael Moore , Ernst Reijseger and Michael Vatcher . He founded his own Cat o 'Nine Tails and worked with Elton Dean on various projects (such as Newsense , Headless ). He also played bash with Pip Pyles and was the keyboardist of the reformed Hatfield and the North (2004-2006, with Phil Miller , Richard Sinclair and Pip Pyle).

With Phil Miller, Fred T. Baker and Mark Fletcher he founded InCaHat , with which he performs the repertoire of several groups on the Canterbury scene. He can also be heard regularly with Sean Bergin .

The Brazilian magazine Tribuna named him one of the best keyboardists of 2008.
