Alexander Alexandrowitsch Schimanow ( Russian Александр Александрович Шиманов ; with the World Chess Federation FIDE Aleksandr Shimanov ; born May 8, 1992 in Saint Petersburg ) is a Russian chess player .

Career

As a four year old, Shimanov learned to play chess. He was trained in the chess school in the northern St. Petersburg district of Kalinin, which Anish Giri also attended, and later in the former pioneer palace. His coaches include Vladimir Lusgin, Valeri Popov and Sergei Ivanov . He celebrated his first major success in 2004 when he won the Russian U12 championship. Since then, he has been able to enter the list of winners in several youth tournaments. In 2008 he became the Russian U16 champion. In the same year he was first, equal on points with Jaroslaw Scherebuch , at the Somow Memorial in Kirishi and took second place with the Russian selection at the U16 Chess Olympiad in Mersin . In 2010 he won the individual and team competitions at the Russian Youth Partakiad in Novaya Ladoga .

The following year he shared first place with the winner Maxim Matlakow in the Russian U20 championship and was second behind Vasily Jemelin in the St. Petersburg city championship. In 2012 he won these two competitions. He played club chess for the Chigorin Chess Club in Russia and for Manisa Doruk Koleji SK in Turkey . With the Viking team from Sollentuna , he was Swedish team champion in 2012 .

Shimanov was named International Master in 2007 and Grand Master in 2009 , scoring most of his norms in the Petrovskaya Ladja tournament series in Peterhof . He was often seen at the traditional Rilton Cup in Stockholm. In his first appearance in 2009/2010 he was sixth, the next year he landed in second place behind Sergei Volkov . Finally, he won the 2011/2012 victory by one point over Slavko Cicak , Dragan Šolak and three other players. He was also in good shape in Oberwart 2010 (1st place) and at the Aeroflot Open 2012 B (3rd place, tied with six other players).
