Sergei Wiktorowitsch Wolkow ( Russian Сергей Викторович Волков , spelling at the World Chess Federation FIDE : Sergey Volkov ; born February 7, 1974 in Saransk , Mordovia) is a Russian chess player . Since 1998 he has held the title of chess grandmaster .

Life

He received chess training in the Saransk Pioneer Palace and at the All-Russia Chess Grandmasters school (ACGS).

successes

In June 2000 he was the Russian individual champion in Samara . At the individual European championship in 2002 in Batumi he finished third, in 2008 in Plovdiv he was third again. He won the Rilton Cup in Stockholm in 2004/05 (with 7 points from 9 games) and 2010/11 (with 8 out of 9). Volkov qualified twice for the FIDE World Cup . In his first participation in 2007 he defeated Grzegorz Gajewski in the first round , but failed in the second round to Vladimir Malachov , in 2009 he lost to Farruch Amonatov in the first round .

He was last among the top 50 in the FIDE world rankings in April 2007.

National team

At the 1998 Chess Olympiad in Elista , Volkov played in the second Russian team, and in 1999 he took part in the European Team Championship in Batumi .

societies

In the Russian team championship Volkov 1999 played for Tsem Smolensk , 2000 and 2001 for the master Lentransgas Saint Petersburg , 2002 University Maikop , again in 2003 for St. Petersburg from 2005 to 2009 for the Mordovian club TPS Saransk . At the European Club Cup he took part in 1998 with Kalitschik Soligorsk , 2000 to 2003 with Mikhail Chigorin St. Petersburg (where he finished second both with the team and in the individual ranking on the sixth board in 2002), 2005, 2006 and 2008 with the TPS Saransk as well 2007 with Alkaloid Skopje . He also played in the French first division in the 2004/05 season for Mulhouse Philidor and in the 2018 Spanish team championship for Oromana Schneider Electric .
