Alexander Friedrich von Hueck

Alexander Friedrich von Hueck (born November 25, jul. / 7. December  1802 greg. In Tallinn , Governorate of Estonia , † July 16 . Jul / 28. July  1842 . Greg in Tartu , Governorate of Livonia ) was a German-Balt , physicians and author .

Life

His parents were the mayor of Reval Adam Johann von Hueck (1761-1829) and his wife Caroline, née Jencken (1776-1849). The agricultural scientist Carl von Hueck (1811–1889) was his brother.

He first went to the private school in Wetterstrand and then to the high school in Reval. He then studied medicine in Dorpat from 1821 to 1825 . There he received a gold medal for a work on the eye in 1823, after his dissertation on December 17, 1826 he received a scholarship for further training and went to Berlin and Heidelberg .

After his return he worked as a professor of anatomy from 1830 to 1838 at the Imperial University of Dorpat, as the successor to Johann Friedrich Eschscholtz . He was clearly occupied with the eye and brought anatomy to great esteem at the university. He was one of the first to systematically research how the eye compensates for head movements.

From 1840 to 1842, Hueck was president of the Estonian learned society .

He married Amalie Jencken on December 24, 1830 in Nissi .
