Carl von Hueck

Carl Ferdinand von Hueck (* 3rd February July / 15 February  1811 greg. In Reval ; † 22 July July / 3 August  1889 greg. Ibid) was a German-Baltic agricultural scientist and genealogist .

Life

Origin and family

His parents were the mayor of Reval and manor owner of Munnalas Adam Johann von Hueck (1761-1829) and his wife Caroline, née Jencken (1776-1849). The physician Alexander von Hueck (1802–1842) was his brother.

In 1840 he married Charlotte von der Borg, a daughter of Carl Friedrich von der Borg (1794–1848). The son Karl Johann (John) von Hueck emerged from the marriage.

Career

Hueck attended the Gouvernements-Gymnasium in Reval from 1821 to 1830 . Immediately afterwards he studied medicine and philosophy in Dorpat, where he worked as a farmer in Estonia from 1831 . From 1832 to 1834 he studied economics, from 1833 to 1834 he was assistant to Friedrich Gottlob Schulze at the Agricultural Teaching Institute of the University of Jena, where he was awarded a Dr. phil. received his doctorate . As a lecturer at the Agricultural Academy in Eldena near Greifswald , he worked from 1834 to 1837. In 1838 he took over his father's estate in Munnalas, which he ceded to his son in 1772. During this time he trained young farmers there. From 1860 to 1872 he was also the Arrendator of the Laitz estate .

Hueck lived in Alt-Riesenberg from 1876 to 1883 and then in Poll . He rejected the election as director of the Estonian Sheep Breeders' Association in 1837 and the establishment of an agricultural college in Orrenhof , as did appointments as a professor of agriculture in Dorpat in 1846 or Göttingen . In 1839 he was a co-founder of the Estonian Agricultural Association.

In addition to his merits as an agricultural scientist and practical farmer, he collected material on the history of German families in Russia as a genealogist .
