Alexander Leonowitsch Rotinjan

Alexander Leonovich Rotinjan ( Armenian Ալեքսանդր Լեւոնի Ռոտինյան , Russian Александр Леонович Ротинян * August 13 . Jul / 26. August  1913 . Greg in St. Petersburg ; † 30th March 1991 in Leningrad ) was a Russian - Armenian electric chemist and university lecturer .

Life

Rotinjan, son of the physical chemist Levon Alexandrowitsch Rotinjan , studied chemistry at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute with graduation in 1935. He then worked as an aspirant at the Leningrad Polytechnic MIKalinin Institute with a doctorate as a candidate in chemical sciences in 1938. During this time he became known for his chess compositions . In 1937 he was expelled from the Soviet Chess Federation because of a publication in the German chess magazine Die Schwalbe .

In 1938 Rotinjan became a lecturer at the chair for physical chemistry at the Novocherkassk Polytechnic Institute .

During the German-Soviet War Rotinjan served in the Red Army from 1941 to 1945 as a platoon leader of an armored train on the Leningrad Front and as head of a chemical service unit.

In 1945 Rotinjan became the deputy scientific director of the Leningrad Research and Design Institute for Mining Technology "GiproNickel" . In 1952 he received his doctorate in technical sciences . In 1960 he was appointed professor at the Chair of Electrochemistry at the Leningrad Technology Institute, which he then headed from 1969–1986.

Rotinjan was buried in Leningrad in the Komarovo Cemetery.
