Alexander Lucas (politician)

Alexander Lucas (born February 23, 1857 in Elberfeld (now part of Wuppertal ), † 1920 ) was a German lawyer, industrialist and parliamentarian.

Life

Lucas studied law and philosophy at the Universities of Bonn , Leipzig and Berlin . In 1876 he became a member of the Corps Palatia Bonn . After completing his studies and legal clerkship, he was a lawyer at the Imperial Consular Court of Zanzibar from 1885 to 1886 . From 1886 to 1903 he was director of the German-East African Society . he was a plantation owner and had interests in industrial and mining companies.

From a by-election on April 3, 1909, until 1918, Lucas was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for the constituency of Düsseldorf 3 (Mettmann) . He belonged to the faction of the National Liberal Party .

Lucas was chairman of the Berlin Zoological Garden and the German Brahms Society as well as treasurer of the Pan-German Association . In the Prussian Army he reached the rank of Rittmeister of the Landwehr cavalry.
