Alexander Surenowitsch Dronow

Alexander Surenowitsch Dronow ( Russian Александр Суренович Дронов ; born October 6, 1946 ) is a Russian multiple correspondence chess world champion.

Correspondence chess

Dronow started playing correspondence chess in 1988 at the age of 41, inspired by Fritz Baumbach's successes . Before that he had tried his hand at local chess without any notable success and had been taking a break there since 1981.

After taking 3rd place on the first board of the 13th Correspondence Chess Olympiad behind Baumbach and Chytilek, he won the gold medal on the 1st board of the opening group for the 18th Correspondence Chess Olympiad. Since 2005 he has held the title of correspondence chess grandmaster .

With victories in the semifinals and in the final of the 22nd Correspondence Chess World Championship, which lasted from December 31, 2007 to July 18, 2010, he was level on points with the German Jürgen Bücker , whom he played in the last game of the 22nd Correspondence Chess World Championship directly Comparison defeated, correspondence chess world champion. Dronow later rated the game as his most interesting of the tournament.

For the second time Dronow won the world title at the 27th World Correspondence Chess Championship, which lasted from October 6, 2011 to September 5, 2014.
