Christophe Léotard

Christophe Léotard (* 1966 or early 1967) is a French chess player . He is the 19th correspondence chess world champion .

Léotard, who learned to play chess at the age of 16, began correspondence chess in 1992. In the 1990s he won the French correspondence chess championship three times in a row (1995 to 1997). He then turned successfully to international correspondence chess. He was named Grand Master of Correspondence Chess in 2000. He won a match against HIARCS and Chess Tiger , two chess programs, with 3.5: 0.5.

At the 19th World Correspondence Chess Championship - held from 2004 to 2006 - Léotard won five of his six white games and drew all black games. He is the first French to achieve the title of correspondence chess world champion. As world champion, he is the successor to Dutchman Joop van Oosterom . The world championship was only held via email . In 14 years of correspondence chess, Léotard has not yet lost a single game.

Léotard works as a teacher in the south of France. He is married and has two daughters.
