Alexander Wassiljewitsch Fomin ( Russian Александр Васильевич Фомин ; born May 25, 1959 in Leninogorsk , Eastern Kazakhstan Oblast , Soviet Union ) is a Russian politician and has been Deputy Defense Minister of the Russian Federation since January 2017 .

Life

Fomin graduated from the Military Institute of the Soviet Ministry of Defense in 1984. From 1977 he served in the Soviet Army and after the dissolution of the Soviet Union until 1993 in the Russian Armed Forces . From 1993 to 1994 he worked in a department of the Central Administration for Military-Technical Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Trade Relations of the Russian Federation. He then worked until 1998 for the state armaments company " Roswooruschenije " as assistant to the general director, deputy to the administrative manager, administrative manager, deputy service manager and service manager. From 1998 to 1999 he was deputy general director of the closed joint-stock company "Zarubeschstroiinvest". The following two years he headed a department of the unitary company "Promexport". From 2001 to 2005 he was deputy head of department and department head at "Rosoboronexport". From 2005 to 2007 he worked as the Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation and ´ finished this career step in 2012 as 1st Deputy Director. From May 2012 to January 2017, Fomin was appointed director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation. By decree of the President of the Russian Federation of January 31, 2017, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia. In this role, he is responsible for issues relating to international military and military-technical cooperation. He also maintains contacts between the Russian Defense Ministry and foreign military authorities.

Fomin is an "Active State Advisor of the Russian Federation" 2nd class (equivalent to the rank of Lieutenant General ) and a candidate for science. He speaks several languages including Portuguese, Spanish, English and Creole .
