Alexander von Stackelberg

Alexander Peter Julius Freiherr von Stackelberg ( Russian Александр Штакельберг ; * March 16 jul. / March 28, 1833 greg. In Magnushof on the island of Worms ; † March 15 jul. / March 27, 1898 greg. In Dorpat ) was a Russian Privy councilor of German Baltic origin.

Life

Alexander was a member of the Baltic Barons von Stackelberg . His parents were the secretary of the Estonian knighthood Friedrich von Stackelberg (1783-1846) and Wilhelmine, born von Vietinghoff from the house of Kechtel (1803-1845).

He studied at the Alexander Lyceum in St. Petersburg and served in the Ministry of Justice from 1853, later as an official for special assignments with the Governor General of Western Siberia . In the years 1865 to 1873 he was then Courland Governorate Procureur and since 1873 Oberprokureur of the 2nd department of the III. Department of the Conducting Senate . After he had advanced to Real Councilor of State in 1869 , he was promoted to Privy Councilor and Senator in 1877 . From 1880 to 1883 he was curator of the Dorpater teaching district. In 1881 he became an honorary member of the Estonian Scholarly Society in Dorpat. Stackelberg had received the Courland indigenous in 1870 and was the owner of the Marren manor in Courland .

He married Bertha Elisabeth Baroness Korff (1835–1902) in 1858 . The marriage resulted in 10 children, including the lawyer, senator and privy councilor Nikolai von Stackelberg (1861–1943).
